The mall
I'm sitting at a book store at the mall just watching people. One lady tutoring, some others meeting and one kid on a laptop. Other than the bookstore the mall is virtually empty. Does no one go to the mall anymore? Is it the old people place other than the Friday night fight fest. It seems the malls of this country are dying. Bummer too they were fun when I was a kid. But now. They are ghost towns in big cities. Farewell malls.

Reality Shows...
I have to admit that when it comes to the world of reality show, they definitely have their place among the choice of shows out there in TV land.
Many think of them as brain rotting programming but for those that watch them, they are totally immersed in them.
I have a few friends that watch them religiously, know every scene and situation, and can quote the show most of the time. They among their circles can argue and agree to the wee hours of the night about the different shows and topics. It is humorous sometimes to sit and listen to them talk about the different shows and their favorite characters and one the other end of the spectrum, those that don't watch them seem like deer in headlights when the subject comes up. Those that don't watch them are most often heard saying things like, "... i just cant get into those shows." or "... that is a bunch of crap and besides who watches that stuff anyway!".
Either way it is an interesting comment on the way society thinks when we see more and more of these kind of reality show coming into the TV lineup.

Quality of work.
The quality of your work is most criticized by you the artist, writer, producer, or what ever you call yourself if your profession. I understand this criticism as my own body of work has grown over the years. And at the same time, I am still surprised every day at the number of people out there that are willing and feel personally compelled to call your work no good, sub-standard, not up to par, or just plain crap.
Never the less, this compulsion seems as though it is a god given right to those that feel that something you have done is not as "good" as something they have done, whether or not they have done anything at all. And at the same time they have a whole compliment of ideas they think would have made the production "much better", felling it necessary to convey them all to you.
Now let me take a pause to say this. I worked with a writer a while back and he offered up this tidbit of interesting knowledge.
~"No script that has ever been turned into a movie, television show, or play ever started as a bad idea. On paper they are all basically the same."
WOW, I never thought of that. It's true. No project that I ever worked on was a bad idea when it started. They were all blank slates to throw theory's at, void of any actual location, place, time, or visual cue to the viewer. Like a book in a way, you have the ability to let your own mind add the creative vision behind the story as it unfolds in the pages you read. When you get a script, or story idea, you have to create that visual imagery for all that will subsequently view it, and if you get it wrong, the result is a bad movie, television show, or play, and the comments come out in full force. This should have been that way, or that color or should have been this color. Or god forbid, that director is and idiot and should have been replaced.
When you are hired as a director, your hired because the body of work that you have already done is indicative of the current project and your "eye" for what ends up on screen is what they wanted in the first place. Now let me be clear. I didn't mind outside constructive criticism. However, when an outsider comes in and tries to fully replace what the original goal was, maybe it is time to punt, start over and give the whole thing another try with another visionary team. If that is not possible, and I cannot stress this enough, limit the amount of outside influence to an absolute minimum and make sure that those opinions stay just that, outside opinions. They should not have any other sway on the project other than to offer up such suggestions.
I have a group of people that over the years I have found to be able to give this sort of constructive criticism. This "focus group" has been a real help to the production most of the time. They offer up reflection in specific time and scene to help with getting those, "what was that", or "that does not make sense" issues addressed before the final edit is done.
The need for all who call themselves a professional to offer praise or damnation to those that did not live up the their own standard quality work will never go away. They will continue to write in the blogs and talk to their friends and say the not so nice comment of you on television or even to your face. Get used to it, it is part of the profession that you chose to get into.

New project working
So I have a new project to work on. I cant divuldge much yet, but I promise that I will keep all of you posted. This is going to be a fun one.
On a side note, I ran into a friend of mine the other day, Bill Gentry and it was great to see him, and to know that he is doing good. Good luck Bill with your new record.

hard day
today sucks...
i did not think that i would miss her so much.. but i do.. and it pisses me off that i do.
i told myself that i would not all myslef to fell this again.. and here i am.. again!
i tried to keep busy today. i took some hardware over to moms to test it out on a computer that i knew worked. but it was no good. so i have to get a new one...
it is 6.30pm and i have absolutely nothing to do. i wish i had friends...

Monumental Day to reflect on
I have to say that this is a day to remember. It has been long coming and I am personally elated to have wittnessed the inauguration of now president Barack H. Obama.
I was very impressed by the very moving speech that he gave. It was one of reality and encouragement. He was very direct with who was to blame but who could make the changes necessary to rebuild our nation, We the People.
What would it have been like to elect an african american president years ago? I dont honestly think it would have been possible. Too many things were necessary to be in place for that to happen. It took this long (unfortunately) for this too happen, but it has! It has happened and now we can start rebuilding this country and making it what all know America to be, the best country to live in.
It has been quite a day for all who voted. For those of you that did, I applaud you for doing your part and letting your voice be heard. For all of you that did not, you have nothing to complain about. As a good friend of mine said, "voting gives you the right to bitch...". I agree totally. If you voted and your guy/girl did/didn't win, you can hip-hip-horray or nay-nay-nay about it when policies and things pass/don't pass. And if you didn't vote. Get out next time and make yourself heard. That is the only way that "We the People" can make a difference.
